Join us to discuss the principles of oncologic surgery, followed by strategies for wound reconstruction after surgical excision or trauma.
This full day course will start with a morning of lectures looking at various reconstructive techniques, including technical requirements and case decision making, will be covered, building on complexity. Simple skin reconstruction techniques, including advancement flaps, transposition flaps including axial pattern flaps, and free skin grafting will be discussed. The appropriate use of drains, and pre and postoperative case management to facilitate successful outcomes will be discussed. Case examples will be used to challenge the audience and illustrate decision making and application of the strategies presented.
The practical cadaver based session in the afternoon will provide an opportunity to perform the techniques, focusing on applying the principles and verifying location of critical landmarks when creating transposition flaps. There will be time allowed to identify the donor sites for specific wound beds and create flaps for closure. Harvesting free skin grafts and preparation of tissue for free grafting will also be practiced.
By the end of the day, delegates should feel confident in making important decisions when faced with oncologic surgery, or traumatic wounds, and will be comfortable performing a variety of reconstructive techniques in live patients.
- Decision making in oncologic surgery or traumatic wound patients
- Become confident in a range of reconstructive surgery techniques including advancement, transposition and axial pattern flaps, and free skin grafts.
